FRIDA

Join us for an inspiring film event celebrating the life and art of Frida Kahlo.

This vivid biopic traces the tumultuous life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo: her near-fatal accident, passionate marriage to Diego Rivera, and political entanglements.

Julie Taymor stages Kahlo’s paintings as living tableaux, where monkeys, skeletons, and surreal flowers spill from canvas into life. Anchored by Salma Hayek’s fierce, Oscar-nominated performance, Frida fuses art, pain, and resilience into a portrait as uncompromising as Kahlo herself.

Following the screening, Mexican cultural advocate Alex White and artist Nicola Kelsell will discuss Frida Kahlo’s artistic work and enduring legacy

Nicola Kelsall is an artist, illustrator and writer based in Cheltenham. She trained at Edinburgh College of Art under the expressionist painter, John Houston, and renowned Scottish artist, Elizabeth Blackadder. Her own contemporary, figurative and expressive artwork, is held in both private and public collections.

Alexandra Smith is an Anglo/Mexican actress. Growing up in Mexico she did leave to study drama at University of South Wales. While there she was spotted by a talent scout and hired as a commercial model.  After finishing her masters at The Drama Centre, London she has acted in music videos, short films and feature films including a new 2025 release called Modern Women.

“A triumph for Salma Hayek” — The Guardian

“A vibrant tribute to Kahlo’s spirit” — Rolling Stone

“Visually sumptuous and emotionally stirring” — Variety
