The Parking Spot + Q&A
The Parking Spot + Q&A

Discovery Louis Godbout Canada 85 min

A trivial dispute over a parking space spirals into a tense, unsettling confrontation that exposes pride, humiliation and the stories we tell ourselves to stay in control.

On their way to dinner, Brigitte and Jonathan clash with a man blocking their parking space. The inscrutable and quietly menacing stranger refuses to back down and seems to know far more about the couple than he should. What begins as a minor altercation slowly escalates into a strange, simmering stand‑off whose reverberations continue well into the evening, as marital problems, toxic masculinity and the sacrifices people make in order to be “right” are laid bare.

It’s no surprise to learn that director Louis Godbout had a previous life as a professor of philosophy. Crafting a taut psychological thriller, he transforms a trivial conflict into an existential crisis. This is a real conversation starter — a film about far more than a parking space, probing deep into the human condition as it explores our mental spaces and where we chose to park our minds.

You will have lots of questions after this film, so we are pleased to have director Louis Godbout in attendance for both screenings.

"The most talked-about film at Shanghai" - Hollywood Reporter

"As singular as they come and remarkably effective" - La presse

"Brilliantly follows in the tradition of sophisticated psychological thrillers such as Carnage and Force Majeure" - Le devoir
